The towel needs washed.

church was good today. its always like a breath of fresh air. today we finished our segment on the ten commandments, with the commandment about coveting. we talked about the importance of being content with what you have, and learning to demonstrate self control in temptations to covet. one example we discussed was david, and the married woman he coveted. fulfilling the desires of our flesh, ultimately lead to death. Jesus is the only one you can satisfy us.

yesterday i was talking to my roommates and they were looking for our dish towel, and i said, "we can't use it, it needs washed." we then got into a long discussion over the phrase "it needs washed". they were all telling me that it was completely wrong to say something that way, without the "to be" in it. (it needs to be washed) and i was blown away because i have always said it that way and have never been told it was wrong. do other people say it like that? maybe it is a lancaster thing? or maybe i am just crazy.
last night, for my roommates birthday party, we had to make dunner for 15 people. we made soooo much pasta. we didn't have any pots big enough to mix it or serve it in so we used our kitchen sink. it was really funny. don't worry, we cleaned it really well.

Cori Bitterman: That is incredible that you put pasta in your kitchen sink. Congratulations for being awesome. And, as far as "needs washed" goes, it is a Lancaster thing. Needs washed, needs fixed, etc. Also, another Lancaster thing is anything a while. "I'm going to dance a while" is a totally Lancasterian phrase(rather than "I am going to dance for a while"). What a world we live in.

I'm praying for you, dear Cori!

haha...wow cori. You had to actually go to Italy to find out the "to be" proper grammer that Lancaster is infamous for! But, I guess I wish that's where I first learned... :-)

You'll be back soooo soon! Enjoy every minute!
(oh, this is only a possibility, but I may be heading over to Europe, maybe Italy, this summer for 2 1/2 weeks...after you're already back! You'll have to tell me all the good places to go)

Cori.....I read the part to Bill about the pasta....and we laughed! I agree with Jennifer B. "congratulations for being awesome"!
How wonderful Sarah's perspective: "You had to actually go to Italy....wish that's where I first learned..." Yeah....wish that I could learn anything I don't know in Italy!!

that's so funny cor! i'm sure I wouldn't have even thought of it--saying "it needs washed" rather than "it needs to be washed". I guess now that you point that out, I can see the proper grammar...but I certainly have said things like, "it needs washed" before, without even thinking about it! yeah...it might be a lancaster thing...I don't know?! k, that's a little gross, putting pasta in the sink, but if you didn't have any other option, I must say it was creative! just not too coshur. lol (sp?) I'm sure it tasted good though! :-) you art students have such creative ways of thinking!! hehe glad your church is still really blessing you! that's great! love yah girl! gotta go. ciao!

What a terrible Mom I've been. I'm so terrible I didn't even know the difference in your grammatical error.
Live and learn. I'm so glad God doesn't judge us on grammar, or spelling or grades or income all He wants is a willing heart, and try your best. Unconditional Love!! Yeah!

Cori,
It is most definitely a Lancaster county phrasology to say that something "needs washed". I never said it until I moved here... it's a sneaky one.
Miss you tons! Can't wait to see you again in April!

Cori, I didn't know that to say "needs washed" was wrong until Jo and Bill Scheidt moved here from New York about 10 years ago and laughed at me for saying it. Now I say "to be" most of the time."Old Dogs" can learn new tricks!!! :-)

Yes, may be we will be taking Sarah and Vinson to Europe this summer.

I think it is a very great idea that you have in putting pasta in the sink!!! What a smart thought. It is something like I would have done.:-) you are a woman after my own heart Cori!!!!
